APFL Takes First Steps Toward Bringing Pro Football to Lafayette, LA

On July 10th and 11th, new opportunities took shape in Lafayette, Louisiana, as the APFL entered discussions with Cajun Field and city officials about bringing a professional football franchise to the region. The meetings united leadership from the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Department, the APFL, and its Louisiana franchise, with the shared vision of elevating Lafayette’s profile while boosting local economic growth.


With Louisiana General Manager Pacer Sexton, Head Coach Ananias Johnson, and APFL President Frank Marin leading the conversation, the league outlined its commitment to more than just football. The APFL emphasized long-term partnership—offering scholarships, internships, and community-wide collaborations designed to ensure a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship.

While a formal agreement has not yet been finalized, both Cajun Field and Lafayette city leaders expressed strong interest in continuing discussions. The APFL remains confident that this promising relationship will soon solidify, paving the way for Lafayette to step onto the national stage as home to a professional football franchise.
